Conservatorship

Conservatorship refers to a legal concept in which a court appoints an individual or organization (the conservator) to manage the financial and personal affairs of another person (the conservatee) who is deemed unable to do so due to physical or mental limitations. This arrangement is designed to protect the interests of the conservatee.

Conservatorships can be temporary or permanent and typically involve oversight of various aspects of life, including healthcare decisions, financial management, and daily living activities.

Examples:

  • Britney Spears Case: In 2008, pop singer Britney Spears was placed under a conservatorship due to mental health issues, which controlled her finances and personal decisions until it was terminated in 2021.
  • Michael Jackson: Following his death, a conservatorship was established to manage the estate and finances of Michael Jackson, addressing debts and income for his heirs.
