Polygon

A polygon is a two-dimensional geometric figure composed of a finite number of straight line segments connected to form a closed shape. The line segments are called edges or sides, and the points where the edges meet are called vertices.

Polygons can be classified based on the number of sides they have:

  • Triangle (3 sides)
  • Quadrilateral (4 sides)
  • Pentagon (5 sides)
  • Hexagon (6 sides)
  • Heptagon (7 sides)
  • Octagon (8 sides)

Polygons can also be categorized as regular or irregular:

  • Regular polygons have all sides and angles equal (e.g., equilateral triangle, square).
  • Irregular polygons have sides and angles of different lengths and measures (e.g., a scalene triangle).
