Pure Play

Pure Play refers to a company or business that focuses exclusively on a single line of products or services, without diversifying into other areas. This specialization allows such companies to concentrate their resources and expertise on one particular niche, often leading to a stronger brand identity and deeper market penetration.

For example, a company that solely sells athletic footwear is considered a pure play in the athletic footwear market. In contrast, a retailer that sells a variety of products, including clothing and accessories, would not be classified as a pure play.

Some notable cases of pure play companies include:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) – Initially a pure play in Cloud Computing before expanding into other tech services.
  • Netflix – Originally focused solely on streaming movies and TV shows before branching into original content and other areas.
  • eBay – A pure play in online auction and shopping.
